JARANA NIGHTS

Thursdays

Lovely and lively, this traditional celebration – known as a vaquería – is one of the most beloved and widespread festivals in Yucatán. It originated in colonial times, and like so many Yucatecan customs, it reflects both Spanish religious beliefs and the Mayans’ way of seeing and connecting with the world.

The vaquería includes three main celebrations: the mass, the bullfight and the dance. With its charmingly colorful visuals and infectiously joyful revelry, the third of these – the dance — is the celebration that most beautifully reflects our Yucatecan spirit of happiness and gratitude.
